Plumpton Brigade has a history extending back to
the mid 1950’s and possibly further. The brigade started life as a Mt
Druitt brigade, then became known as the District brigade stationed in
Pringle Street (what is today’s location of the Mt Druitt SES unit).
While a district brigade, many Chaplains from the New Tribes Mission
were members wearing black safety helmets. Soon other brigades were
formed and it was knows as the Blacktown Bushfire District. In 1980, the
brigade became known as the Headquarters brigade, with the present
station in Florence Street opened by John Aquilina (M.P.) on the 18 May
1981. In 1988 the Headquarters brigade became known as Plumpton Brigade.
Even though our Brigade has changed names and the Service has gone from
Bushfire Brigades, to Bushfire Service, and now, Rural Fire Service (R.F.S.)
We still are as dedicated to service the local community as we were in
out humble beginnings.
Today we not only fight grass & bushfires, as we are commonly
associated by, Plumpton Brigade's MAIN role in the community is
urban type incidents, i.e., Vehicle Accidents & Fires, House &
Structure Fires ,Storm Damage, just to name a few. As a Brigade we
are also involved in Community Education
